Kid Recipes

Why Share?

We believe that youth should have opportunities to try new foods without the risk of missing out on a preferred snack choice, and without families having to spend money on food that may be wasted. Here, we post our new whole food, no-bake offerings, so families have more ideas on quick, nutritious food to offer at home that kids have tried and approved!

How does it work?

At TCC, we always offer snacks, but we wanted to start offering more nutritious snack options. There are two pieces to our Whole Food Program:

  • Standard whole food options: food items that youth typically eat, or food that requires cooking
    • Offered at least twice per week in addition to other snack options
  • New whole food recipes: we combine a few different items in a no-bake capacity that youth have likely not tried before
    • Offered twice a week, once per month, in addition to other snack options
    • Each recipe is sampled and rated by kids
    • Kids come up with a fun name for the new recipe; we love their creativity!

Supported by

Thanks to funds donated by Ottauqueeche Health Foundation and the Woodstock Rotary, we have the backing to expend a little extra on whole foods. We also have volunteers who help with some produce pick ups through Veggie Van Gogh. The educators here observe what kids are interested in and try to offer foods that they will like, while also adding some excitement to the classic snacks.

Where do we get our whole foods?

Some of our whole foods are used right from our on site organic veggie garden! Youth here help start the garden and tend to it throughout the summer and into the fall. The rest is purchased through local markets, and some is accessed via Veggie Van Gogh.
